JAMES L. KAMAN
James L. Kaman was born in Kingston NY in 1932 and died July of 2013. He attended Florida Southern College, in Lakeland Fla, where he earned a BA in English and Arts. Mr. Kaman studied the art of watercolor with Woodstock artist John Pike, and served a term as president of the Woodstock Guild of Craftsmen. He taught art in the Kingston City School District for over 25 years. He drew many cartoons for the Mid-Hudson Model Masters Club, which were later published nationally through the Academy of Model Aeronautics, a division of the National Aeronautic Association. He worked as a commercial artist, designing advertisements for numerous local banks and businesses.He worked with Mayor John Heitzman and the committee that produced the City of Kingston Seal. He also designed the insignia for New Yorks Year of History in 1959. In addition to his paintings shown in private collections, one of his watercolors of the Hurley Reformed Church was presented to Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands, by the Town of Hurley, on the occasion of her visit to the United States in 1959. Primarily working with watercolors, his paintings depict rural life in the Catskills and Hudson Valley.
